Give the people something to argue about on the way home. -Jeffrey Hatcher
In 1996, Jeffrey Hatcher brilliantly crafted a two-person staged version of Henry James's 1898 gothic fiction novella, The Turn of the Screw, and Full Circle Theatre is delighted to be able to share it with you! A young governess is hired by a handsome bachelor to care for his niece and nephew at his country estate, Bly Manor. She is given express orders that she handle whatever may greet her there solely on her own mettle. Ominous, indeed! As the captivating story unfolds, you may judge for yourself whether or not the children are the prey of evil, seductive spirits or whether the ghostly visitors at Bly are a product of the Governess's own repressed desires. In this particular adaptation, there is an intentionally minimal set and the story is told by only two actors who walk us through the tumultuous events of seven days at Bly. Audiences should come prepared to have their imaginations sparked and to be carried away along with the Governess as she tells us her haunting tale.
